  • Elevation Profile: show

Overview

This section traverses the wooded northern slopes of Hortiatis on well maintained trails. The final part follows a beautiful and lonely ravine until close to Peristera village.

Description

From the square take the main road uphill and then turn left towards Agia Paraskevi chapel. Then continue on the dirt road towards Ardameri. Pass a farm on your left and a small stream and immediately turn right on a steep path through oak and chestnut forest. The rest is a beautiful and well marked route on footpaths and dirt tracks that will bring you to a saddle with nice views and a junction of several dirt roads.  Take a minor track along the ridge south-east to descend to a beautiful secluded valley. Now continue on a path along the bank of the stream joining a dirt road by a bridge. Turn left and walk the remaining 2km to the village of Peristera.

Amenities

Apart from a couple of tavernas Peristera does not offer much. If you do not wish to camp here, take the afternoon bus or taxi to Thessaloniki and come back the next morning.

Signposting

The route is marked inconsistently so care is needed.
