Overview

A long traverse of the Kerdilia range down to Strimonas valley.

Description

The route follows dirt roads roughly following the main mountain ridge through beech and oak forest. There is a lack of water sources along the route. After about 20km you will walk out of the forest with nice views from here on. After passing by Ano Kerdilia memorial cite, turn left on a rough track to join the paved road going to the remains of Kato Kerdilia. Turn right before a telecom antenna and continue across fields towards the small chapel of Ag. Anargiri. Continue on the footpath behind the chapel, steeply at places to join a track beside a pen at the bottom of the valley. Cross the national road and continue along tracks on the embankment of Strimonas and eventually cross it via the olds bridge by the Amfipoli Lion. Continue on the road to Kavala and after 400m turn left on a track through olive groves that climbs a small hill and then descends to Amfipoli village.
