Overview

The first section of the walk follows a beautifull and lonely ravine to a saddle high on Hortiatis mountain. The second part traverses the wooded northern slopes of Hortiatis on well maintained trails.

Description

From the central square of Peristera walk uphill and follow a track north-west of the village. After 2km the road crosses a stream over a bridge. Just before the bridge leave the road and turn right along the path. The path continues along the beautifull ravine among thick bushes and eventually comes to a junction. Turn steeply right and ascend along a path and rough track to the ridge ahead. Continue on a track along the ridge north of the valley to end on a junction of several roads on a saddle. Now turn right along a wide path across fields and soon through forest. Continue on well trodden paths and tracks through beech forest to finally join the dirt road coming from Ardameri. Follow the road to Agia Paraskevi chapel at the outskirts of the village and finally join the main road of Hortiatis. Go downhill to reach the main square.

The route is marked inconsistently so care is needed.

Transportation

From/To Hortiatis take the local bus No. 58 and then No. 61. Peristera is served by bus no. 87 (not very densely).
