Overview

The first and last sections of this route are monotonous but the middle section, hiking along the narrows of Rentina, is quite interesting.

Description

From Vrasna follow roads as designated in the map to reach the junction on the national road. Head towards Stavros and after 200m after passing the river turn right along a broad track continuing along the narrow valley of Rentina. After passing by a pen continue on a small track destroyed by erosion soon coming by the river. Just after a water tap and bench turn right on a footpath pleasantly under the shade of plane trees. Continue along the beautiful path by the river eventually joining a track and hut. A paved path ascending left leads to the Byzantine castle of Rentina. Although the site is closed to the public the views from up there are very nice and is only a short diversion. Back to the river, continue on the track along its southern bank in lush vegetation to join the national road shortly before the historic chapel of Agia Marina. Follow a track behind the chapel and continue among fields to end up in Modi.

Amenities

There is not much in Modi. Take the bus to Asprovalta or Stavros for lodging or continue to Varvara.
